A STAR IS BORN – Movie Review

By Lisa Treacy

To say my expectations were high for this film is somewhat of an understatement. I was waiting with baited breath from when I first saw the trailer and I hoped against hope it was not just another film with a great trailer but nothing to back it up. This film has everything to back it up!

For starters, Bradley Cooper not only acts, directs, co-produces but he actually sings! He does an outstanding job of directing this movie if you’ve even the slightest interest in music you will love it but the main talking point about this film has to be the inimitable Lady Gaga. She is absolutely flawless, a solid performance from start to finish, one almost feels like it is an honest portrayal and a snapshot of her own life but that isn’t giving her enough credit for her acting ability.

It was a very special film that blended elements from real life for celebrities and earthlings alike and treated them in such a tender way. I don’t generally cry at movies but this film struck a chord with me and I feel it will stay with me long after the credits have rolled. Check out the best song from the film “Shallow” on Spotify now and turn it up loud. This film surpasses both Judy Garland/James Mason and Barbra Streisand/Kris Kristofferson versions of A Star is Born. Looking forward to seeing what Bradley and Gaga do next.

5 stars from start to finish. On general release October 5th.
