The findings of a feasibility study on the future development of public spaces in Athenry has now been published and has laid a roadmap for how public spaces could be developed in the town.

The ‘Re-imagine Athenry’ project aimed to identify improvements that can be made to such spaces – as well as explore different uses for heritage buildings and the findings of the study were presented at the Amicitia Social Hub at Old Church Street.

The study, funded by Galway Rural Development was commissioned by Athenry Community Council and included public consultation and online surveys. Chair of the Re-imagine Athenry committee, Councillor Shelly Herterich Quinn, has praised the work done which sets a template for the future.
