Cllr. Albert Dolan of the Athenry Oranmore area and Cllr. Alan Cheevers of the Galway City East ward have been working together to ensure a cohesive collaboration between Galway City Council and Galway County Council.
Last month Galway City Councillors were informed of the intention of the City Council, in conjunction with Galway County Council and Irish Rail, to apply to the European Urban and Rural regeneration funds to deliver five platforms at Ceannt Station and a passing loop at Oranmore.
Cllr. Dolan highlighted the lack of capacity in the mornings from Athenry as the biggest problem facing commuters, particularly with the reduced capacity in a post-covid world. “A passing loop at Oranmore will allow for a substantial increase in capacity, meaning more trains in the morning and higher frequencies” said Dolan.
