The staff of Athenry Credit Union were amazed to have received almost 600 entries for their inaugural amateur Photography Competition. The competition was open to all ages, entrants were encouraged to explore their surroundings and take the time to review their cameras and devices to find previously taken photos to enter the competition.
14-year-old Abbie Rooney was the overall winner with her beautiful photo of newly born Ducklings, Brendan Reaney took second place with his ecstatic photo of Horse Racing on Omey Island, third place went to Ita Reddington with her stunning colourful walkway image, the photograph of the sun setting on Enniscrone beach taken by Eddie Colleary grabbed the attention of the judges for fourth place and Paul Gaughan’s photo of resting sheep on Achill Island with the golden sandy beach in Keem Bay visible in the backdrop received fifth place recognition.
Philip Lavelle Marketing Officer for Athenry Credit Union said: “We were overwhelmed by the number of entries we received and especially with this being the first year of the competition. Our adjudicators did not have an easy task choosing five winners from the almost 600 entries that we received. We hope to continue this competition on an annual basis to bring out the passion of photography in our community. I would like to congratulate the overall winner Abi Rooney and our four runners up.”
