Children’s Tree Campaign and Athenry Tidy Towns:

A group of students of Athenry Music School in conjunction with Esker Children’s Music Group and Athenry Tidy Towns, as well as other groups, propose to plant thousands of native trees on lands adjacent to the M6 motorway near the town on Saturday 29th February 2020. The planting is part of the

Children’s’ Tree Campaign (CTC).

Athenry Tidy Towns has already sourced the trees for the event. In 2018, Athenry Tidy Towns won the National Tree Project Award, sponsored by the Tree Council of Ireland, in the national Tidy Towns competition. The award was in recognition of the planting of 25,000 trees in the years 2013 – 2018.

Children’s Clarin River Photography Competition:

Athenry and Clarinbridge Tidy Towns groups this year ran the above competition for national school children. There was a big entry of over a hundred and sixty photos submitted. The local girls Scoil Chroi Naofa and the Boys National School had winning entries. We would like to thank the Principals and teachers who encouraged their pupils to enter. A calendar for 2020 was produced and Tidy Towns would like to thank all who bought a calendar in support of Athenry Tidy Towns. Twelve prizes were generously sponsored by Athenry Credit Union with Supermacs Athenry sponsoring a prize for the class of the winning pupil.

The Christmas Lights volunteers:

A big ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers whose work with the Christmas Lights gave the town a magical look over the festive period. Thank you to the local businesses and individuals for their support.

Appeal for volunteers to assist tidy towns in their work:

As Spring approaches and evenings are getting longer, Athenry Tidy Towns would like to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer some time in helping us in our work to improve the look of our town. Anyone willing, or able, to help can contact us at athenrytt@gmail.com
