It’s Parade time!!!!
It’s that time of year again when our thoughts turn to the St. Patricks Parade! The wonderful thing about the Athenry Parade is anyone can join in! You don’t have to belong to a club or formal group. You can just pop along and get involved. Athenry Community Council Trust are the hosts and they take care of all the organising, insurance etc. so you can just dress up, turn up and take part. We’ve not pinned down the theme quiet yet, but you can share your views on Athenry St. Patricks Day Parade, face book page, so get your thinking caps on….
This year, St. Patricks Day falls on Tuesday (17th of March, of course), so, if you’re a bit of a last-minute person, you have the weekend immediately before to get things done. If, however, you would like to take more time, and would like a bit of support, Gliondar will have their workshop at Raheen Tennis Courts open every Saturday, at 11am from the 22nd of Feb up until the 14th. It’s free. You can just drop in and have a cuppa or join one of the floats or workshops that’s getting underway there. Elaine Cunningham will be teaching willow lantern workshops from 11:30am-1pm for those who want to learn willow & Paper lantern making & sculpting. Materials provided.
Other projects looking for more ‘hands on deck’ for St. Patricks Day are
- Wheels of Athenry would love anyone who wants to decorate their bike and join their entry. Suitable for families with little ones.
- Galway 2020’s project ‘Hope it Rains’ are looking for volunteers to wear their ‘living garments’.
- Need help with painting signage, or drums to make some noise?? We can help you out.
We look forward to making this Parade a bigger and brighter one for the year that’s in it.
