Following a successful year in 2019, Athenry Men’s Shed is up and running for 2020 and after the Christmas break the shed offered some respite for shedders to get back to a routine following the festivities. This time of year, like other organisations, shed members are looking forward to the brighter days and longer evenings whether it is to get some outdoor exercise or maybe start some gardening, either outside or in the shed tunnel. The daffodil shoots’ appearance gives us that optimistic sense that all is well in nature and that spring is rapidly approaching. (Despite the entire negative hype pertaining to climate change).

The workshop is slowly but surely coming back to life where machines can be heard sawing, drilling and sanding timber to create another masterpiece in woodcraft.  Members have begun ‘prepping’ ideas for the St. Patricks Day parade in March and getting shed-made items sorted to place on the float. Shed members are also looking forward to participating in the Galway 2020 celebrations which will involve the National and International shed movement coming to Galway in August for the shed ‘gathering’.

Throw in some trips to other sheds around the country and welcoming sheds from other counties to visit us in Athenry and it doesn’t take long to fill our programme for the year.

Athenry Men’s shed is holding its AGM on Friday 21st Feb. at 2.00pm and is always open to new members.
